One of my favourite things to do when making cards is use up scraps. I have a drawer full of paper scraps, jars of leftover buttons and ribbon ends, and, because I've been working with Clear Scraps for a few years now….I have a pile of little pieces of acrylic. Some of them are leftovers when I've used partial mini-albums, some are pieces I've started for layouts or cards and then changed my mind on, some of them are little pieces that have been die cut with a Sizzix …..but all of them are still great, and all of them are still perfect for little card embellishments!
You can look here to see Part 1 and Part 2 of my Quick Cards.
Part 3…..is really kind of a prompt, more than a tutorial. I really like playing around with paints and other dimensional mediums but I am in no way an expert….I just like to play. Hopefully when you see the cards I made, you'll know that, if I can do it….anyone can :) And can I suggest, if you're just getting started playing like this, that you get a few of these Mini Ornament albums like these Mini Cupcake albums that I used pages from to make these cards. They're perfect little embellishments to put on a whole set of cards.
This first card has a page from the Cupcake Ornament album with the bottom smeared with pink acrylic paint (Claudine Hellmuth) and the bottom with rub-on adhesive strips and flocking (DCWV). I used my fingers to put on the paint to add to the swirly-icing-like feel and avoid paintbrush strokes.
This second card has a page from the same album but instead of simple paint, I've finished the top of the cupcake with a thick layer of Gesso and when it was dry, I sprayed it with some pink Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels). The bottom is patterned paper (Basic Grey).
For this third card, I used a page from the Snowflake Ornament album. I covered this one in large glitter ice cristals from Viva Decor. Just before I put it on the card, I painted the edge of the snowflake with a paint marker.
I hope you'll give some paints and gels and glitters a chance the next time you're picking up piece of acrylic and wondering what to do with it.
Thanks 🙂
