XL Damask Frame by KC

Happy New Year to all!

2012 was a really fun and creative year for me and 2013 promises to be even better!  Clear Scraps has tons of great new items to create with and I've been having a blast playing with them.  The first project I'd like to share features three items from the new line – the XL Scallop Frame, the Medium Scallop Frame, and the 6" Damask Mascil – Mask/Stencil.  I love working with stencils and the new Clear Scraps stencils are great!  Since they are transparent, it is very easy to place your stencil exactly where you want it.  They are thin to leave a very sharp image, plus since they are pliable, they work well on curved surfaces.

Begin by taping the stencil in place with painter's tape.  Tape carefully along the edges to protect your surface or background.  For this projected I used black Stazon ink and a dauber to pounce the ink onto the stencil.

I wanted a clear dark image, so I covered the area completely with black.  If you want a more distressed look, just go a little lighter with the coverage.

The big reveal!  Look how crisp that is!!  Since this is a repeating pattern, I just lined up the images and repeated around the entire frame.  Then I painted the backside with white acrylic paint.
The medium frame was painted black on the back and then I dotted the edges with a silver Sharpie to look like a black lace edge.  The sewing notions are from Clear Scrap's Clearly Accent Embellishments.  They were colored from the back side using black or silver metalic Sharpies and then details were added to the front using the Sharpies as well.
"Sew Many Projects….Sew little Time" – the battle cry of a happy crafter!
Hope your 2013 is full of lots of happy, creative moments!

Thanks for the tutorial on the stencil. Very helpful and informative. And the Sharpie technique is a great tip.
