Hello Crafty friends,
It's almost time for Halloween! Today I'm sharing a fun way to decorate your wooden memory-dex card holder from Clear Scraps. Clear Scraps has several styles to choose from and mine is the
Regular DIY Wood Box, the measurements are 4.75 inches wide by 6 inches long. This box can also be used for storage as well, all you need to do is leave the wooden dowls and the dowl holders out and you have the perfect little storage box for small crafty or household items.
To start off my project I grab some essential supplies for my project. I used Elmer's Tacky glue as seen in the photo below, but I suggest wood glue or Art glitter glue. I found that the Tacky glue did not hold up as I expected.
After I have grabbed my crafty supplies, I line up the wooden pieces where they need to be attached to the base of the box. Crafter tip: Be sure to fit everything into the slots before adding glue to see which direction fits best. Usually, you will feel or hear a click, when you slide them into the cut-out grooves. That's when you know you've chosen the best side or direction to place them. Next, I place a line of glue on each tab and underneath the open slots. See images below.

I continue doing this with all the pieces and clicking them into place. If you have a large rubber
band it makes it easier to hold the pieces in place as you are working. Once it is put together, I set it aside to dry for about 20 minutes. If you use Art Glitter glue it usually only takes about 5 minutes of drying time.
After everything has dried, check to make sure the box is sturdy and that you did not miss any areas that need glue. Next is the fun but messy part. Well for my anyway, I'm always messy when it comes to painting. Just grab your paint brush and your black chalk paint and start painting the areas that you know will not be covered by paper. I painted all the edges around the box and then made sure all the corners and cervices inside and outside the box were covered liberally with paint. See images below.

Now that I have the entire box painted, I grab the dowls and paint them along with the dowl holders. Once I have finished my painting, I set them aside to dry.
Now that all my Box pieces are dry to the touch, I can start decorating my box. I decided to decorate mine in a Halloween theme and I used Simple Stories Vintage Halloween 12×12 paper collection as well the chipboard embellishments. To do This I start by turning my box to the side and lay it on top of the paper I want to use and trace it with my mechanical pencil. I find the mechanical pencils easier to use because the lead is very thin, and I can get closer trace lines to the box.
Once you have traced the side of your box all you need to do is take your template and cut out the 4 pattern papers 2 for the outside of the box and 2 for the inside. I used my Tim Holtz ink to stain the edges a Carved Pumpkin color.
Once you have finished cutting out and inking the papers for the long side now you will need to cut four more pattern papers at 4 5/8" by 1 7/8" inches for the front, back and inside of the box. Then ink the edges with Tim Holtz Carved Pumpkin ink. You will also need 2 sheets of pattern paper cut to
4 5/8" inches by 5 7/8" for the bottom and inside of the box. Then ink the edges once again with your Tim Holtz Carved pumpkin color.
Now all you need to do is glue on your pattern paper. Here I used Art Glitter glue as it is thin glue and doesn't leave any lumps. Thank you so much for joining me in decorating this adorable wooden memory-dex card holder. Please check out my supply list below.
