Oh my goodness, these new shaker tags are so much fun and versatile to work with. I used the circle shaker tag found in the What’s new section of the website and the new “Songs of the sea” paper collection by Stamperia to create this mermaid tag.
Trace and cut out 2 pieces of paper for the front and back of the tag. Ink and glue the first side. Using an exacto knife, cut the paper out of the center of the circle. Repeat for the other side.
Paint, ink or stain the circles that are used to build the shaker. I used Dr Ph Martin India ink, this is a pigment based ink and where alcohol ink is dye based.

While the chipboard circles are drying, grab 1 acrylic circle and remove the film from both side. Using alcohol inks or India ink (which is what I used), “color” the acrylic circle. I added a few drops of India ink, spread it around and added some drops of alcohol to get the “water” effect.
Once it has dried, glue it to the back side of the tag and add 1 chipboard circle. I used some brown/ brass colored cabochons to add on top of the circle to give it a “port hole” look.

I then grabbed 2 more chipboard circles and added them to the front of the tag. Using sand, shells, and sea glass, I filled in the shaker. Then I removed the film from the other acrylic circle and glued it to the top of the chipboard circle (you should have 1 chipboard circle left). Then I glued the last chipboard circle on top of the acrylic circle and added more brown/brass cabochons.
I glued down some netting (I forgot to ink edges, so I did it on this step, but I recommend doing it before you build the shaker). Next I added some cheesecloth, ephemera pieces, the flower and other embellishments. I did use brown and black India ink on some art stones and added them to the base of the tag and around the shaker.

I added some ribbon mixed with cheesecloth to the top of the tag. I love how the shaker looks like water. The brown and blue colors with a hint of pink and purple are so pretty. These shakers look great in a junk journal, album or just for display. I hope you have been inspired to grab a few and explore.
Happy crafting
