Hello fellow crafters, and happy spring! 🌸 As the season blooms, many of us find joy in planting and nurturing succulents. For me, being both a teacher and a succulent enthusiast, these charming plants have become the theme of my classroom. To celebrate this love, I recently embarked on a project to create a decorative sign for my classroom next year. I utilized a 12×10 Medium DIY pallet shape, plastic succulents, vinyl, and my Cricut machine to bring this vision to life. Join me as I share the simple yet delightful process of crafting this pretty sign.
To begin, I applied brown chalk paint to the shiplap surface of the pallet shape. After allowing it to dry for a few minutes, I gently wiped the paint with a wet paper towel to achieve a charming "washed" effect.
Following that, I utilized my Cricut machine to cut out the words "Curiosity grows here" from cream vinyl. Carefully arranging the vinyl lettering on the shiplap surface, I gently rubbed it onto the sign for a secure fit. Next, I delicately removed the stems from the plastic flowers and arranged them alongside the vinyl lettering. Using a hot glue gun, I then affixed the plastic succulents onto the sign, ensuring they were securely attached.
To complete the project, I added a touch of rustic charm by fashioning a hanging mechanism for the sign. Using twine and wooden beads, I cut a piece of twine to the desired length, tied a knot in the middle, and threaded wooden beads up each side of the twine. This simple yet elegant addition provided a delightful way to hang the sign, adding to its overall appeal.
Shiplap DIY pieces offer endless possibilities for crafting, whether it's for quick gifts, home decor projects, or simply unleashing your creativity. I encourage you to explore the potential of these versatile wood pieces and embark on your own crafting journey.
