Using leftover pieces for a Fall hanger

Hello everyone – 2 months ago I used a regular wood memory dex box to make a photo holder.  I had the 2 wooden end pieces I did not use so came up with this idea to use those pieces.

Today’s project uses Regular DYI woodbox, Word n Shape Fall pumpkin, brown ribbon, raffia, leaf pattern paper, orange pattern paper,  yellow acrylic paint, hole punch, Gesso, strong glue, and paintbrushes.

To begin use the bar to trace around the pattern paper and mark the holes.  Cut the paper and use a hole punch to punch the marked circles.  Use Gesso to paint one side of the wooden bars.  Add the pattern paper making sure to match the holes.  Add a layer of Gesso on top.  Let dry completely.

Take the pumpkin shape and the orange pattern paper.  Trace around the shape with a pencil and cut it out.  Paint the shape with Gesso and add the pattern paper.  Paint the top of the pattern paper with Gesso.   Let dry completely.

Take the word and the Gesso and paint the front.  When it is dry use the yellow paint and paint it.  Let dry completely.

Use a piece of raffia to make a bow. Use the strong glue to glue it to the upper right hand part of the pumpkin.

To make the hanger, take the brown ribbon and measure out about 25” and cut.  Cut another piece the same size.  Thread one of the pieces of ribbon through one of the holes on the bar.  Use the strong glue to attach the ribbon to the back of the pumpkin.  Repeat with the other piece of ribbon gluing it to the back of the pumpkin.  Set a heavy block on top to make sure the pumpkin is flat on the ribbon.  Let the glue dry.   Note – I worked on a nonstick mat and laid my pieces of ribbon out straight so I could get a good placement of the 2 ribbons.

When the glue on the pumpkin is dry, measure up the ribbon about 2 ¼” up from the top of the pumpkin and have the bar there.  Add the glue underneath of the hole on the front and press the ribbon in the glue.  Repeat for the other side.  Set a heavy block on top to make sure the ribbon and pumpkin were flat on the ribbon.  Let the glue dry.

Note – Stretch the ribbons out flat so you have equal spacing of the bar from the pumpkin and the 2 ribbons are even.

Now add glue to top of the hole on the back of the bar.  Push the ribbon into the glue and add a heavy block on top.  Let the glue dry.

Measure up the ribbon about 2 ¼” from the top of the bar and place the word Fall.  Move the word right or left so the top of the word has some of the letters on the ribbon.  Add glue to where the letter is on each ribbon.  Press the word into the ribbon and  set a heavy block on top to make sure the word was flat on the ribbon.  Let the glue dry.

Thread the left ribbon through the left hole of the last bar.  Add strong glue under the hole on the back of the bar and press the bar into the ribbon.  Repeat with the other piece of ribbon gluing it to the back of the bar.  Set a heavy block on top to make sure the bar is flat on the ribbon.  Let the glue dry.

Add glue above the hole on the front of the bar.  Press the ribbon into the glue.  Repeat on the other side.  Set a heavy block on top to make sure the ribbon and pumpkin were flat on the ribbon.  Let the glue dry.

Use the top of the ribbon to tie a bow.  Note – I found it easier to do this with the ribbon flat on the table so the 2 ribbons were equally spaced from the top of the bar.

Your hanger is now complete and ready to be hung in your house!

I hope you enjoyed this project and will try it.  You can easily make one for other seasons as the Clear Scraps store has lots of other shapes.

Have a Marvelous Monday!
