Everyone has that one special pet who completely steals your heart—the one who was truly meant for you. The one who eases your sadness and is there when you need comfort the most. This is Alamo. He was my best friend’s emotional support dog and helped her through some incredibly difficult times. Sadly, Alamo passed away earlier in 2025, so I created this desktop wooden frame for her as a way to remember him.

I began by painting the wooden frame and base with an orange copper paint. Next, I used some adorable dog-themed paper to cover the front of the frame and the top of the base. After tracing, cutting, and gluing the paper in place, I cleaned up the edges with an X-Acto knife. I also used the knife to cut the slits in the center of the base. Then, I inked the edges of both the frame and base with brown ink to add depth and dimension.

Using the X-Acto knife again, I carefully cut out the center of the frame. I placed foam dots around the outer edge of the larger frame so that when the top frame was added, a photo could still slide in between the two layers. I didn’t add any foam dots along the bottom, since that portion fits into the slits in the base.

Next, I took the new “Hugs and Kisses” chipboard pieces, painted them with the same copper paint, inked the edges, and added a white ribbon to the center of the heart on the “O.” I then gathered flowers and moss to create a soft, spring-inspired look on top of the base. Using a laser cutter, I cut Alamo’s name from wood, painted it with copper paint, and nestled it into the moss and grass along the base.
I hope this project inspires you to create a special frame for the pet who holds such a meaningful place in your heart.
Happy crafting and happy new years, Jennifer
