Clear Scraps Project Post

One of my favourite things to do when making cards is use up scraps.  I have a drawer full of paper scraps, jars of leftover buttons and ribbon ends, and, because I've been working with Clear Scraps for a few years now….I have a pile of little pieces of acrylic.  Some of them are leftovers when I've used partial mini-albums, some are pieces I've started for layouts or cards and then changed my mind on, some of them are little pieces that have been die cut with a Sizzix …..but all of them are still great, and all of them are still perfect for little card embellishments!

For Part 2, I wanted to show you another technique that's quick and easy:  Alcohol ink.  Now, before I show you my card, let's just say that clearly, I'm no queen of Alcohol ink….in fact, I feel like I learn as I go but I'm pretty pleased with how these 2 castles turned out.  Basically all I did here was drip Cranberry alcohol ink and Pearl mixative on teh acrylic castle and tip it back and forth until I loved how the 2 colours were swirling together and until they covered the entire surface of the acrylic. When it was dry, I used some silver StazOn to touch up the edges and put it on a card with a suitable sentiment.  Done.

These acrylic castles can easily be die cut.  In fact, if you're using the extruded acrylic sheets (12×12 sheets sold here), you can use any dies to cut whatever shape you want, as long as it has blades that are deeper than the acrylic itself.

Before you go, here's one more really simple example of alcohol ink on an acrylic embellishment:

I used a simple acrylic circle from this Clear Scraps Flower package, dripped Cranberry ink on it, and again touched up the edges with some StazOn.  Instead of adding a rub-on, I actually just laid the pink-stained acrylic overtop of a piece of patterned paper that had the sentiment on it.  This way, the stained acrylic acts like a highlighter – making the sentiment (ordinarily simple black text on white paper) pop off the card.
