Clearscraps Chipboard Baby Layout – Tutorial

Hi friends!  Debbie with you today sharing a layout of one of my grand babies as a newborn.  I will be sharing a fun

chipboard technique that I find myself using over and over again.  It's easy and really gives your chipboard pieces a

beautiful finish.

The chipboard pieces I used on this layout are Dragonflies Chipboard Embellishments and Maple Branch Chipboard Embellishments. The

Stencil I used n the background is 6" Doily Mat

Well begin with building the background for this layout.Start with 2 sheets of patterned paper, Trim the center of one piece

leaving a one inch border around the edge. Set aside.

Using your trimmer cut a 3 inch vertical cut down the center top of your second piece of patterned paper.

Trim 1/2 in of 2 sides of your second piece of patterned paper.

Roll the edges of the center cut you just made.

Adhere it to your frame  centering it leaving a 1/4" border.

You can distress and ink all the edges if you like.

Insert and adhere a piece of coordinating scrap paper to the rolled slit at the top of your vertical cut.

Here is what it looks like to this point.

Using the center of the first piece of patterned paper, trace and cut a tag.  This will be used in your mat for your photo. Set aside.

To add some texture you will need some modeling paste and something to spread it with. I prefer these

gift cards as it allows you to spread the paste more evenly and in larger areas.

This is what it will look like.  Let it Dry or use a heat gun to dry. Set aside.

Next step is your chipboard, add a coat of Gesso to your chipboard.  Let Dry.

Coloring your Chipboard.

  1. Cover with VersaMark Clear Ink
  2. Sprinkle Embossing Powder over the whole piece of Chipboard. Heat Emboss.
  3. Repeat the VersaMark and Embossing Powder.
  4. Spray finished pieces with Mist. I like Heidi Swapp or Glimmer Mist for this technique because they have shimmer.
  5. Heat with heat gun.  As the the embossing powder melts it soaks in the shimmer to give your pieces a shimmery finish.

IMG_3276

Adhere a piece of cardboard to the back of your matting, this will give your layout dimension.

IMG_3268

Add your photo and matting to your layout.

IMG_3266

Time to add your Chipboard and Embellishments of choice (I almost always use flowers).

IMG_3296

You will notice some small beads and sequins I adhered after all the embellishments were adhered.

I also used  a paint brush and some of the mist to paint the Stenciling around the photo.

Now your layout is finished!
