Hola,
Tami here on the blog today to show you the SURPRISE project using the XL Gnome that I promised back in a December post: XL WOOD GNOME CHRISTMAS ELF
While I was embellishing my Christmas Elf, I was thinking it would make a great centerpiece for my table if only… it was embellished front and back! Then, I thought, what if I embellished one side for Christmas and the other for New Years Eve and the rest of Winter?
I decided to give it a try. Granted, this would have been MUCH easier if this thought had popped into my head about an hour sooner – I could have just traced around the wood hat, hands and beard, but I was able to lay tracing paper on those pieces and rub the edges to make a pattern.
Then, I just started embellishing all over again! This did lead to a few challenges. Some of the embellishments I had placed on the front were visible on the back. So I had to paint the backs of some pieces and add some pieces like the snowflake at the tip of the hat, the leaves on the holly and most challenging, the wood "believe" sign. To avoid having to camouflage embellishments from the front when decorating the back, just avoid adhering anything past the edges of the wood.
So here is my Father Time or Old Man Winter or just a Wintery Wizard…
And here are some closeup shots of how I incorporated the embellishments from the front that showed on the back…
Snowflake at tip of hat…
Holly leaves…
and the wood "believe"…
and here is a pic of his glittery wand…
If you have an event where you need centerpieces or decor that will be seen from both sides, think about embellishing the back side as well. Or do like I did and create a piece that can be used for more than one occasion. You can review the directions included in my December 22, 2020 post, embellishment techniques are similar: XL WOOD GNOME CHRISTMAS ELF
