Hello everyone! October is well underway and I'm sure you're celebrating lots of Fall activities. What sorts of celebrations do you have for birthdays that come around Halloween? I know I have a couple friends who have birthdays right around, or on, Halloween. They love celebrating both with parties each year – and this card is a great idea for them!
I chose the Birthday Cake Chipboard Embellishment – the frosting looked like a spooky slime dripping to me, so I decided it would be a perfect option. I started by painting the cake in black and green. I tipped the candles with orange, and let the chipboard piece dry. Once set, I chose a black polka dot paper and glued the cake to it, trimming the edges off.
My next step was to take a piece of white card stock and create a spooky backdrop. I love working with the Clear Stamps stencils – they are great with the alcohol inks and wipe right off when you're done. For this project, I decided to play with the 6" Calendar Masking Stencil. I didn't need the lettering, but just laid the squares over my paper. These stencils work really well with the liquid created from the sprays.
First, I laid the stencil over my paper and then started spraying on a first color. I took an embossing tool and dried that layer, then turned the stencil diagonally and sprayed the paper with a second color. After drying, I lightly sprayed my 3rd color over the entire page and let dry. One tip – make sure you have a piece of plastic or protective covering underneath when you use these sprays, so you don't accidentally paint your craft area!
Now, my card choice is a green polka dot card stock with a black backdrop. I've also cut out a black spider web in card stock also. Glue these pieces together, then trim down the stenciled paper to fit in the middle. I chose to adhere the cake to the corner and then found a clever stamped saying to glue on top. The word "boo" is done in a green distress ink to look like the slime on the cake.
Finally, I've added a cute but spooky Frankenstein image to the lower corner, colored in with some markers. I also added bling because…you always need bling! This is a bit of Stickles glue on the candles and highlights on the stamp.
Your Halloween birthday lovers will enjoy this unique card because it's made just for them. Who wouldn't love getting this colorful project in the mail?
I hope you have some fun with this project – I know I did. Give the chipboard embellishments and stencils a peek on the Clear Scraps site – they add so much fun to your paper projects. Thanks for stopping by!
