Hello friends and happy Monday! It's Jennifer here on the blog to share some of the new adorable Shiplap Shapes! I create some spring themed door hangers using the Small Circle and Small Heart Shiplap Shape. And I'm going to show you my techniques!
I used the same technique for each background of my Shiplap shapes so I'm just going to show you the circle. First I added a light coat of chalk paint in Patina.
Once my paint was dry, I used a tea light candle and applied wax to the surface of the wood. The more wax you apply will equal a more distressed effect.
Next, I applied white chalk paint in small sections. I used my scraper in an upward motion while my paint was still wet. You can apply your scraper as gentle or hard as you prefer.
I adhered strips of patterned paper to the lower center of the circle followed by die cuts and stickers from the collection I used. I matted a favorite wallet sized photo onto white cardstock as well as added a metal clip. I thought the Circle Shiplap Shape would be a cute way to display a picture.
Here are close ups of the project!
For the Small Heart Shiplap Shape, I again used the same background technique with chalk paint and wax. Then using the 4×6 Hello Spring Stencil plus Distress Oxide Ink in pink, I blended my color directly onto the heart.
Here is a close up of the end result! I also added a small strip of patterned paper as well as die cut flowers, butterflies and enamel dots.
For both of my projects I adhered pink/white chevron ribbon to the back for easy display.
