Holy Cow! Christmas in July!

Howdy!

Tami here on the Clear Scraps Blog today. I have a project using one of the new Shiplap Wood Shapes that I'd like to show you.

Although it's about 100 degrees on any given day during summer here in Texas, I was thinking about Christmas! July IS a great time to start working on or think about working on projects for the holidays.

It seems like once Halloween rolls around, it's a downhill slide into Christmas. The weeks between the holidays just seems to disappear. So why not do some of your holiday crafting during the summer?

I used the Large Shiplap Cow Head to make this Christmas decor piece for my front door…

Let me show you how I made it…

I started by painting the wood with 2 coats of black chalkboard paint…

I wanted the grooves in the shiplap to show up more, so I used a metal file to scrape down the lines to remove the paint…

Next I used a chalk writer and the ABC Lower Case Stencils to add the wording…

I gave the piece 2 coats of sealer to protect the chalk from smudging…

I made a bow from some holiday ribbon and added some stems of pine garland behind it. I tied rusty bells onto some silver cording and hung them from the bow. A hot glue gun secured the bow to the wood…

Don't forget about adding a hanger. I used my Crop-o-dile to punch holes in the wood, then used a heavy red and natural twine as the hanger…

I was thinking that doing any of the Shiplap pieces in a chalkboard paint would allow me to change out the wording as long as I didn't seal it. And I could use magnets to add and change out the embellishments to change up the design for different holidays. Might have to try that next!
