Living in the Southwest is a blessing many months of the year! However, there are the few months when the heat gets unbearable. Hi, I'm Maureen, and I want to share a unique sign I created for my door this month. It's a fun saying that gives a wink to where I live – Arizona!
It's still my home, of course. And I love where I live, flaws and all. Ha ha ha! Let me walk you through how this is created – it's such a clean and simple project! My project base is the Large Circle Shiplap shape, base-coated in black acrylic paint. I love the light feel to these wood shapes, and they hold up well both hanging on a door or in an easel.
Next, I'm using the Home Large Chipboard Embellishment as the main sentiment, and painting this in white acrylic paint. I've found this easier to do while the letters are assembled. After painting, I cut the letters apart and assemble them across the top of the sign, but leaving the O out. I've also added the additional sentiment below it with white vinyl letters.
From here, I'm painting a wood pallet in the shape of Arizona, which is a special order item from Clear Scraps that is sold in stores here in town. If you don't have access to shapes like this, an electronic machine would have the 50 states available and many machines cut both balsam wood and chipboard as you would need. You could also cut the shape out in vinyl and apply it!
My state shape is painted using the paint-pull technique, such a fun way to add flair! Simply drop several colors of paints in drops at one end of your item, then take a scraper tool and "pull" the paint across your item. Do it again as necessary to add more coverage!
The final addition is to stencil a cactus on to this shape with the 6" Cactus Pots stencil. I lightly sponged the paint on the shape and corrected any edges with a fine paintbrush. Glue this shape on to your sign with hot glue. Make sure you seal it if it will be outside on display.
I cannot wait to display this project in my front room! The weather is getting warm so it's going to be a sign that Summer is almost here. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Right?
Thanks so much for joining me – see you next time!
Maureen
