Summer Beach Ball Wreath Decor

Summer is just about here, and for many of us, it has us dreaming of the beach or pool!  Welcome to the Clear Scraps blog today – my name is Maureen and I have a fun project to decorate your door just in time for the start of Summer.  It's an assortment of decorations you can use to decorate a door wreath!

My main focal point is centered around a beach ball I painted on the 6" Small Shiplap Circle.  What a fun weekend project this was!  I decided to go with bright colors that I knew would match the ribbon in my wreath.  Start by base-coating your circle in a white paint.

Next, I'm taking a pencil and tracing the shape of a circle in the corner to be the end of the beach ball, and then drawing lines to the edges to look like the colorful sections of the ball.  I just followed a pattern on Pinterest for this.

I chose some colorful paints to paint each of these sections in, and they match my ribbon choices too.  Once dry, do a second coat as needed.  While I was painting, I also picked out the Hello XL Wood Sentiment to paint in a green paint, and the flip flops from the Word n Shape Summer Flip Flops set, done in a bright pink.

Let this dry completely, and then trace the lines of your beach ball with a black permanent marker.  This is a good cheat for a black painted line!

After that, I'm using a sponge applicator in a circle shape to add the white paint dots.  I'm also doing this technique for the flip-flops too.  With the flip-flops, I've glued on some ribbon as the straps, and as they dried I held them together with some clothespins.

Details that I added to the wood items are as follows:  a black marker line around the white paint dots with a couple extra dot details, a line of black marker on the "hello" sentiment, and a white line on the sentiment also.  When this is dry, make sure to spray it with a clear finish to protect it outside.

To attach these items to my wreath, I glued a ribbon on the back of each wood piece, then tied it to my wreath.  You also could use hot glue and adhere directly to the ribbon, but in my case I could change them out later if they start to fade.

This was a really fun change of pace for me!  I hope you also enjoyed the project.  To learn how to do the wreath, I recommend searching for ribbon wreaths on Pinterest or YouTube.  Enjoy and make a splash this Summer, everyone!
