How do you celebrate Independence Day? Do you have a party or go see the fireworks? It won't be long and we will be celebrating the 4th of July. Hi, it's Maureen on the blog today with a fun card to celebrate the stars and stripes. This card idea I have today can be used to send someone a hello, or even to make an invitation to a Summer party.
For this card, I've chosen one of the new Summer shakers – the American Flag Mini Shaker! This one is so fun because there are lots of compartments to put the shaker fill in. I'm also using the Winter Sequins for this project, but decided I would do something different and fill the stripes with words instead of bling. And by the way, let's discuss the name of these sequins for a minute. Why aren't they called Patriotic Sequins? Ha ha ha!
My first step is to paint the top layer red and let dry. I used red acrylic paint and also painted the edges. Set this aside while you work on the card.
To eliminate some weight on the card, I've left out the base chipboard piece. Instead, I'm adding a blue and white polka dot paper to the upper corner on the back of one of the layers, then gluing on the other layers on top. This entire piece gets glued to the base of your card. In this case, I'm using a blue striped coordinating paper underneath.
Next, I'm printing up the Pledge of Allegiance in an Old Baskerville font and measuring the lengths of the stripes. These papers are trimmed and then glued underneath the top red flag piece.
The flag is added to the top with glue and I also add a few sequins to the corners of the card for some extra flair. And your card is complete! A relatively quick project that really has a classy look to it. I love working with the shakers, they are so much fun!
I hope you have an amazing 4th of July holiday this year. Thanks for being Clear Scraps fans – see you next time!
Maureen
