Hi crafty friends! Jeanne here with my first project as a guest designer for Clear Scraps. For my project I decided I would create not one but two projects using the wonderful products that I received from Susan, thank you so much Susan! So I will get right to it!
I created a Vintage note/recipe holder home décor piece using the Clear Scraps Cutting Board Shiplap Shape Small along with a matching junk journal album in which I used the Clear Scraps Mixed Layer Tab Album . I hope you will be inspired and follow along how I created these easy and fun projects! Here we go!!
I began by painting the entire cutting board, even though I papered it, I still wasn't completely sure what I would be doing with this. On the tabbed album, I opened it up from packaging, set aside the 2 acrylic pages and painted only a one inch strip around the 2 chipboard pieces. For both the cutting board and tabbed chipboard pages I used Folk Art Vintage White Acrylic paint.
I began by selecting the paper collection I would be creating with which is " Spring Farmhouse" from Prima Marketing. I "should" have traced the cutting board before I painted it but since I had not done so, I lightly traced it with a pencil onto one of the 8×8 papers that I picked for the back of the cutting board. For the front, I measured, traced and cut sections for the cutting board. I also went over the edges of the papers with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink followed by my Distress Tool from Prima Marketing.
I then used We R Memory Keepers Hole Punch on the top front paper and back paper. Before adhering the paper, I took some Finnabair Art Alchemy Liquid Acrylic "Brown Sienna" paint and a thin paint brush I went along the the cut lines for a bold worn look on the lines. Once all this was complete I adhered my papers onto the wooden cutting board using Art Glitter Glue and lastly I added a Finnabair Art Daily Rusty Paper Clip.
Now onto the Vintage Junk journal I made using the Mixed Layer Tabbed Album, as mentioned before I have already painted a 1 inch more or less of a line around the chipboard pages. I also decided to add a couple of pages in which I made from some thick Kraft card stock from my stash and cut them to size
Next I picked out the papers that I would be using for my pages, I cut them all 1/8th of an inch smaller than the Kraft pages and chipboard . Once I’ve cut all of the papers to size, I inked them around again using Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink then adhering to the chipboard pieces using Art Glitter Glue. Once I’ve adhered the papers I went over them using a brayer. I like to do this just to make sure the glue is spread out evenly for a better hold. *I did forget to mention that I made holes using the We R Memory Keepers Hole Punch on the pages. Also using the We R Memory Keepers Corner Rounder on the edges of the pages.
I originally was going to create a recipe book but then decided to do something different that I had not created in a little while which is a junk journal. I went thru some of the ephemera from the Prima Marketing Spring Farmhouse and I pulled out my box of junk journal goodies and began to add on a variety of items such as tags, pockets made from small glassine bags and other items. I also made a pocket by adhering some lace and also adding lace to the Kraft pages. On the last page I did use a coffee filter I had in my stash and made that into a pocket. In my stash I also had a couple of pieces of Tim Holtz Idea-ology Kraft Glassine papers that I had stamped and then used my heat tool to set.
On the tabbed and paper pages I added some Tim Holtz Stitched Scraps , some Prima Marketing Flowers and Wood Spools from the Spring Farmhouse collection. Lastly I worked on the Acrylic pages from the album. I took off the film off from them, I set the cover page aside as I always create this last. I have some 7 Gypsies Parchment Rub-Ons from my stash, I cut the ones I wanted to use on the acrylic page and rubbed them onto the page. Next I moved onto the cover page, I had a Sticker that looks like a wood panel I believe it is from 7 Gypsies as well. I added that then used my We R Memory Keepers Hole Punch on it. I then added some flowers from the Spring Farmhouse Collection and other Prima Marketing flowers. Also adding pieces of cheese cloth in between the flowers. I adhered these using double sided tape as I didn’t want liquid glue to be too visible on the other side. I did however use some dots on some of the flowers but those are on the wooden panel sticker.
I had a small metal spoon in my stash that I had already painted and used a crackle medium on. I adhered this using E6000 glue and then lastly I adhered a “Home Sweet Home” ephemera piece from my stash. Finally to bind this book together I picked out a few different colors of embroidery thread and ran it thru each hole not tightening very much. I added a small dangle I had in my stash as well.
Well crafty friends, I do hope I didn’t bore you with my process on how I created these two pieces. I absolutely love these products from Clear Scraps that one can create not just one way but a variety of ways. I’m so excited to get started on my next project as guest designer for Clear Scraps!
