Coming off the holiday season, I felt an irresistible urge to create something special. This month’s assignment was the perfect opportunity to craft something beautiful while embracing the Spirit of Love. My project? A complete makeover of a vintage phone stand with a mixed-media twist! Here’s how I transformed it, step by step.
Step 1: Preparing the Base
I started by selecting some mixed media paper leftover from a previous project. The vibrant patterns had just the right touch of love and whimsy. I measured and carefully cut the paper to fit the wooden base of the phone stand. Once the sizing was perfect, I adhered the paper using a strong glue, smoothing out any bubbles to ensure it laid flat.
Step 2: Adding Texture and Dimension
Next came the fun part—adding texture! I selected a few stencils with heart and hexagon patterns to match the theme. Using a palette knife, I applied white texture paste through the stencils, creating raised designs on the surface. The paste dried quickly, leaving behind beautiful, dimensional patterns that added depth and interest. I especially love how the crisp white paste contrasted against the colorful background, making the details pop.
Step 3: The Finishing Touches
Once the texture paste was fully dry, I sealed the surface with a matte finish to protect the design. While originally a phone stand, this piece’s versatility shines—it can also display art, cherished photos, or sentimental mementos.
