Hello crafty friends! The first official day of spring was just a week ago, but the sunshine and warmer temperatures have me craving summer already! So, I pulled out some pictures from last year’s vacation and created a bright, summer-inspired layout that I’m excited to share with you today.
I love clean, crisp layouts, and nothing says clean and crisp to me like a white background. I started with a 12×12 white cardstock base and layered up some vibrant, patterned papers to add a pop of color.
The beach is my favorite vacation spot and during each trip, I collect some sand and shells. Our most recent trip was to Port Aransas, TX and I thought the Texas Shaker would be the perfect way to display those special mementos on my layout.
First, I printed the background photo I wanted inside the shaker. Using the shaker frame as a guide, I traced the shape onto my printed image. As I cut, I stayed inside the drawn line to ensure a perfect fit on the shaker base.
After adhering the photo to the back of the shaker, I glued the additional two chipboard layers in place and secured them with mini clamps until the adhesive dried.
Once dry, I added my collected shells inside the shaker, adhered the acrylic cover, and used clamps again to hold everything in place while it set. Tip: Don’t forget to remove the protective film from your acrylic piece before adhering!
For the top chipboard layer, I wanted to achieve a realistic beach look. I mixed some of my collected sand with UV Resin until it reached a thick, paste-like consistency. I spread a thin layer of UV Resin onto the chipboard frame, then carefully added the sand mixture, keeping it lumpy and textured to mimic the look of a real beach. Once fully covered, I cured it under my UV lamp for about three minutes, rotating as needed. To enhance the texture, I sprinkled a bit of dry sand over any wet areas before finishing the curing process. I completed the shaker with a cute sticker and a puffy heart for a final decorative touch.
For the rest of my layout, I used cardstock and a paint marker to decorate the chipboard beach ball from the Summer Chipboard Punch-Out Embellishments. I tucked it under one of my photos which I adhered using dimensional adhesive to give the layout more depth.
The title is a combination of stickers and the Vacation Chipboard Word Title, which I colored with my white acrylic paint marker. Acrylic paint markers are my favorite medium for painting chipboard because they provide excellent coverage and work just like a regular marker.
To finish the layout, I added a few more embellishments and the year at the bottom.
I love how this layout turned out! The Texas Shaker is such a fun way to preserve vacation memories, and the textured sandy effect adds a unique touch. If you have collected small treasures from a trip, I highly recommend using a shaker element to highlight them in your scrapbook.
