Graduation season is in full swing, and it's hard to believe it's already been a year since my daughter graduated in 2024! As I’ve been reminiscing, I decided it was the perfect time to finally create a layout featuring one of my favorite memories—her Senior Tea Party, a sweet celebration hosted by her teachers just before the big day. The Clear Scraps Teapot Shaker felt like the perfect embellishment to capture the elegance and charm of the occasion.
After selecting my background paper, I was drawn to the teal cardstock and originally planned to create a journaling block using the 5×9 Stripes Stencil. To get started, I placed the teal paper on top of a sheet of grid paper and secured the stencil with washi tape. Then, I used my Copic Airbrush can and marker to airbrush over the stencil. I love how the airbrushed lines created a soft, distressed effect—just enough texture without overwhelming the page.
After I adhered the striped block and arranged my photos, I began building the layout’s focal cluster around the Teapot Shaker. To make the shaker, I chose a patterned paper from the same collection I was using for the background and glued it to the back chipboard layer. Once the glue dried, I trimmed the excess and began layering the chipboard frame pieces to form the shaker walls. I added a sweet little mix of hearts and crystals before gluing on the clear acetate layer.
For the top layer of the teapot, I picked a coordinating patterned paper to add contrast. I adhered it to the chipboard, let it dry, then trimmed off the extra and lightly distressed the edges with an emery board for a soft, vintage feel.
As I kept designing, I decided to swap out handwritten journaling for a few sentiment pieces from the paper collection. The striped block still came in handy—it made lining up the phrases super easy and added a nice bit of dimension to the layout.
One of the things I love most about the Clear Scraps stencils is how versatile they are. You can use inks, paint, pens, texture paste, or, like I did here, airbrush for a subtle background. If you want thinner, crisp lines, a fine-tip marker works beautifully. Or go bold with thick acrylics or gel mediums for a more artistic effect. The possibilities are endless!
What’s your favorite medium to use with stencils? I’d love to hear how you’ve incorporated them into your projects!
