Have you ever found a project that just makes your heart happy? That’s exactly how I felt while putting together this sweet little junk journal using the Clear Scraps Small Rectangle Journal Cover. With its compact size—just 4" wide by 5" tall and a 1.5" spine—it’s the perfect little book to tuck full of memories, bits and pieces, or meaningful quotes.
To create the journal, I started by laying out the chipboard cover pieces, leaving just a bit of space between the front and back covers and the spine. That little gap makes all the difference—it allows the book to close properly without putting pressure on the pieces. Once I had everything lined up the way I liked, I used clear packing tape to attach them together. From there, I covered the pieces with my chosen patterned papers and began decorating the cover.
Don’t let the idea of a “junk journal” intimidate you—this is only my second cover, and I promise, they are so easy to make! Once your cover is done, the inside is truly where you get to make it your own.
You can:
-
Sew in your signatures using the needle and thread included in the kit (so convenient!),
-
Add a ring binder for flexibility,
-
Or even create your own interactive spine with flip pages, folders, and inserts.
The possibilities are endless, and the small size makes it such a fun, manageable project to try—even if you’re new to junk journaling.
