Hello Darlin’ from The Lone Star State

My Home is where the Star is…the LONE STAR that is!
Howdy Y'all! or should I say, Hello Darlin's!
Misty @Mommyofkidz here with you today all the way from TEXAS, the Lone Star State!
If you walk into my home, you will see that it is the home of a crafter, a scrapbooker, a wife, a mother, a cake baker and dinner maker, a friend, a daughter, a Believer, and you will definitely see a TEXAN. I am truly proud of my heritage and all the things that make me who I am. One of the the things that makes me so happy is being on the Design Team for Clear Scraps, and having the opportunity to design for Susan and show off all of her amazing products.  Of those products, I have found that I am LOVING the Wood Pallet Shapes! Last month a did a Large Circle Shiplap to create a door sign. I loved doing it so much, that I did another on this month! Except, this month, I got brave and did a TEXAS shape! Holy Cow Y'all! I love this soooo much!

I started out with the Texas and Red, White, and Blue Outdoor Paints. I used blue Painter's tape to make a clean straight line for the section of blue…the slats of the shape served as my dividing lines for the red and white. First I primed the entire thing with white.  Once that dried, I began adding the blue, leaving some brush strokes and a bit of the white exposed.  I wanted to create a worn and weathered look.

Once I completed painting the blue, I let it dry and then removed the painter's tape. I added the red and white in the same manner, leaving a bit of white exposed and a few brush strokes.  TIP: I painted the red on a little thick, so I simply got a dry paper towel and wiped off some of the edges and exposed a bit more of the white underneath.

Once all of these had dried, I covered the entire piece with Mod Podge Matte- I wanted it to all have a muted color. Remember that Mini Star Shaker that I did in this Patriotic Post ? Well, here is where I used it!  It serves as the Lone Star in my Lone Star State!

After adding my star, I added a sentiment that I cut in vinyl on my Cricut.  Hello Darlin' seems very fitting…mostly because I call my husband Darlin' ALL THE TIME. I added a second coat of the Matte Mod Podge at this time, and let it all set before the final step. The Bluebonnets!

Once it was all dry, I added the bluebonnets and a yellow ribbon…kind of a final piece of the TEXAS puzzle. I am kind of obsessed with how this turned out.  My husband said that the bluebonnets were "too big" and that maybe I should remove them.  I looked at him like he was crazy and said"Um, Hello Darlin'…everything is BIGGER in Texas! Why would I remove these big beautiful Bluebonnets???"

Obviously the Bluebonnets stayed! Yes, they are tall, but I LOVE it so SO much!
I hope that you do, too! And hopefully you will head over to the Clear Scraps Store and find a Wood Pallet Shape of your own liking to get crafty with!!
