I know, I know… it’s the middle of summer and we’re all soaking up the sunshine—but can I let you in on a little secret? The moment I saw the brand-new Clear Scraps Interchangeable Advent Banner, my mind didn’t go to Christmas… it went straight to Halloween! 🎃
Yep! I thought, “How fun would it be to create a Halloween countdown?” So, that’s exactly what I did.
I started by covering each of the wood pennant shapes and interchangeable discs with patterned papers that matched my Halloween theme. Once those were set, I grabbed my paint marker and painted the wood rings and chipboard numbers black. After they dried, I coated them in chunky black glitter for some sparkle and sealed everything with a layer of Mod Podge. I love the extra dimension and texture this adds—spooky and sparkly? Yes, please!
To really draw the eye to the countdown in the center, I kept the embellishing focused on the two outer pennants, keeping the middle ones clean and bold. The only additions I made to the center pennants—besides the countdown discs—were some foam letter stickers that spell out a cheerful “Halloween Greetings” across the top. I love how it adds a festive touch without taking away from the countdown feature.
On the far-left pennant, I had so much fun playing with the Witch Hat Bats Chipboard Elements. I painted the hat and star with my paint markers, then used a strip of the same patterned paper from the countdown discs to cover the hat band—tying the whole look together. I adhered the hat to the pennant, then layered on a fun foam circle embellishment so it slightly overlapped the hat. To keep it balanced, I tucked some extra foam adhesive under the right side, so it stayed nice and level.
On the far-right pennant, I created a cluster using coordinating die cuts from the paper collection, popping up a few with dimensional adhesive for extra interest. I finished that end off with the chipboard bats from the Witch Hat Bats Chipboard Elements, painted black using—you guessed it—my trusty paint marker. 🦇
To bring it all together, I strung the pennant pieces with ribbon, then tied additional pieces of mixed colors and patterns between each section for a bit more whimsy and movement. It was the perfect finishing touch!
This banner was such a fun twist on a traditional countdown project, and I can't wait to make my Christmas one!
