Haunted House Tag Box

Hi friends! Jennifer here with a fun new product project to share.

I'm absolutely loving these new tag boxes—they're super versatile! You can use them to store tags and photos, or even turn them into a decorative piece with plants or spooky accents.

To start, I painted all the box pieces—front and back—with black chalk paint. I love using chalk paint because it dries quickly and gives a smooth finish, but acrylic paint works just fine too.

My project

Once the paint dried, I took a brick stencil and clipped it to the side of the house-shaped portion of the box. I applied some crackle paste over the stencil to create a realistic brick texture—so fun to watch it dry! Once dry I brushed some black paint over the bricks to tone the white down a bit.

Next, I grabbed some wooden fence pieces I had previously painted white. I added a bit of black paint to give them a distressed look, and then draped some cheesecloth over them to create a spooky spiderweb or ghost-like effect.

For the inside, I found an image of a skeleton I wanted to use. I carefully cut it out and added a bit of brown distressing ink to give it a vintage vibe. Then I painted a circular frame with black acrylic paint, sprayed it lightly with water so the paint could settle into the grooves, and left the top surface with a soft gray tint. Once that dried, I added gold and copper paint to some of the flowers on the frame for extra detail.

To assemble, I used B7000 glue to attach the fence pieces to the sides and back of the box, and added moss along the fence line. After that dried, I glued the main box together. For the front of the house, I added a frame and a chandelier image to give it a "window" look, and filled in the brick wall with more moss, flowers, and a little pumpkin.

My project

To finish, I painted a small lamp gold, found a crow which I painted black, and added them to the scene. I also cut down some black glitter decor stems and glued them to both the front and back of the box. Finally, I placed the framed skeleton inside and topped it all off with a big, creepy spider.
