🎃 Hello, crafty friends! Jennifer here with a spook-tacular Halloween project that’s equal parts eerie and adorable.
Today, I’m sharing a bewitching decor piece featuring the fabulous new 4×6 Witch’s Hat and Bats punch-outs—perfect for putting those treasured scraps to good use and adding a touch of spooky sparkle to your space.
To start, I gave the wooden spools a quick coat of black chalk paint. I love this paint—it usually covers in just one coat and dries super fast, which is great when inspiration strikes! While those dried, I traced the witch’s hat shape onto patterned paper, carefully cut it out, glued it on, and used an X-Acto knife to tidy up the edges. A bit of black ink around the edges gave it that extra haunted charm.
Now, onto the fun part—embellishing! I gathered some whimsical elements: flowers, ribbons, black wired orbs, a little spider, a pop of pink with a feather, and layered them onto the front of the hat for a fabulously spooky look.
To make the hat stand tall, I used a straw as a base and slid it into the spool’s hole, securing it with glue. For extra flair, I wrapped the spool with a coordinating scrap strip and added two different ribbons—one at the top, one at the bottom—for a polished finish.
🦇 Now let’s talk bats—because what’s Halloween without a little fluttering fright?
I painted the bat punch-outs using the same black chalk paint I used on the witch’s hat. It gives them a rich, matte finish that really pops! While those were drying, I grabbed a coordinating patterned paper and wrapped it around another spool as the base. For a touch of glam, I added some sparkling ribbon around the center—because even spooky needs a little sparkle!
Next, I curated a mini Halloween scene using some of my favorite embellishments: a tiny pumpkin, a vintage-style street lamp, a bit of moss for texture, and some eerie black fence pieces. I arranged everything on top of the spool, layering until it felt like a little haunted moment frozen in time.
To finish it off, I attached the painted bats to the lamp post—one perched near the top, another swooping from below—creating a dynamic, dimensional look that’s equal parts fun and frightful.
This spooky spool scene makes a charmingly creepy addition to any Halloween display! 🖤🎃🕸
And voilà! A festive Halloween accent that’s cute, creepy, and completely custom.
Happy Haunting & Happy Crafting! 🕷🖤✨
