Hello everyone – I have my second August project for you today. I created a fun Fall Banner to hang in your house.
Today’s project uses the Wood Fall Collection pack, Hello Fall stencil, brown loopy ribbon, Fall fabric – 2 different patterns with one being lots of colors, Fall buttons, raffia, brown – green – orange – red – yellow acrylic paint, eyelets, Crop-a-dile (or eyelet setter), strong glue, sponge, and paintbrushes.
To begin use Gesso to paint both sides of the wooden shapes. Let dry completely.
Take the pumpkin shape, the brown and orange paint, and a pencil. Use the pencil to in the bae of the stem. See photo below. Now paint the pumpkin and let dry completely.
Take the leaf and the yellow paint and paint the leaf. Let dry completely. When the leaf is dry use a sponge and the red and orange paint and add sponging to give it a Fall leaf look.
To make the apple use the brown, green, and red paint and paint the shape. Let dry completely.
For the banners you will need some cardstock, Fall fabric, brown paint, Fall stencil, die cutting machine, sponge, banner die, and a strong glue.
Begin by using the strong glue to attach the fabric to the cardstock. Let dry completely. When dry use the banner die to cut out the shape. Note – I ran the die through my forward and backward several times. Then I flipped it over and ran it through a couple of times again. The die may not cut the fabric all the way but you can use your scissors to finish the cutting.
Take the stencil, the brown paint, and the sponge to add one letter to each banner shape. I marked my stencil with a dry erase marker where the top of the banner should be then I centered the letter on the banner. Note – you will need to mask off the other letters so you do not get paint on the banner from the other letter. Allow the paint to dry completely.
We are ready to assemble the banner. Take your banner, a ruler, and a pen and place a dot about !/4” from the top and ½” in from each side. Use the eyelets and your crop-a-dile to punch a hole and then set your eyelets.
Cut off about 2 1/2 yards of ribbon. Starting with the last “L” thread the ribbon through the right side eyelet from the back of the banner across the front and through the other eyelet. Repeat this process with the other letters. Note – you are adding the letters on the ribbon starting with the last letter in the word working your way to the first letter.
Now it is time to add your fabric ribbon. Take your colorful Fall fabric and tear it into 1” strips. Tie them onto the banner ribbon on each side of the letters Note- I tore my ribbon to give it a more rustic look. You can cut yours if you want.
Take and lay out your ribbon so you can get the spacing even. Spread out your ribbon and letters leaving a larger space for the wooden shapes. I did mine this way.
Fabric ribbon, Letter F, Fabric ribbon, pumpkin shape, Fabric ribbon, Letter A, Fabric ribbon, leaf shape, Fabric ribbon, Letter L, Fabric ribbon, apple shape, Fabric ribbon, Letter L, Fabric ribbon.
Add your wood shapes using hot glue on the back. Note – I glued my wood shape close to the top of the shape. The shape is heavy and if you glue it too far down it will flip to the back.
Your banner is now complete and ready to be hung in your house!
I hope you enjoyed this project and will try it. You can easily make one for other seasons as the Clear Scraps store has lots of other shapes.
Have a Marvelous Monday!
Robbie
