One of my favorite things about crafting is finding ways to get the most out of a product, and the new Clear Scraps Interchangeable Banner Advent Set is the perfect example! Instead of creating a single-season piece, I decided to make mine double-sided—Fall on one side and a Christmas Advent Countdown on the other. Now I have a home décor piece I can display for months, and all I need to do is turn it around to match the season!
The Fall Side 🍂
For the fall side, I started by adhering my background paper to each panel, trimming around the edges, and cutting out the holes from the center of the two middle panels. I covered two extra Mason Jar Circles with patterned paper using my 2.5" punch (such a perfect fit!). To echo the rustic feel of the background paper, I layered small rectangles of burlap onto the end panels before adding embellishments.
All of the chipboard pieces came from the Pumpkin Embellishments Chipboard Punchout set. I inked the acorn, leaf, and pumpkins using blending brushes, which gave me beautiful shading and color depth. I cut apart the Hello Fall chipboard sentiment so I could position it across the circles and left it uncolored so it would pop against the darker background.
To finish things off, I added two tiny magnets behind the circles. This way, when it’s time to flip the banner for Christmas, I can easily remove them to get to the countdown holes and swap out the numbers.
The Christmas Side 🎄
When I flipped to the Christmas side, I followed the same process—covering each panel with patterned paper, trimming the edges, and punching the circle openings. The key here is to remember your layout and reverse the order of the panels when you flip them. Don’t just turn them over in place or your design will be out of order when assembled!
For the countdown, I used my 2.5" punch to cut patterned paper circles, then added the numbers, which I colored with an acrylic paint marker. The outer rings were covered with coordinating paper, then lightly sanded for a distressed look that added depth and dimension.
On the first panel, I layered Pine Trees Chipboard Embellishments covered in matching green paper. For the last panel, I added the HO HO HO Chipboard Embellishment set, stacked vertically down the center. To finish the banner, I cut a "Merry Christmas" sentiment with my Cricut, but you could just as easily add a Clear Scraps Chipboard Script Word or use pieces from the Noel Chipboard Punchout.
