Howdy, Y’all! Misty @Mommyofkidz here with you today sharing my 2nd project for Clear Scraps this month! I am excited because I am using some more of the NEW RELEASES!! . I am so super excited for fall, and I am assuming you all are, too! I love when the mornings and cooler, the are is crisp, and I don’t break a sweat just walking from my front door to my car! (Remember, I do live in Texas…where it is 107 in the shade)
However, as ready as I am for hayrides and bonfires, I am going to miss the summer sun and blue ocean waves! I think that is what inspired my project today.
I decided that it was time to do another Junk Journal. I had SO MUCH FUN creating the first one that I decided to make another. Click HERE for my first Junk Journal that I ever created.
When I did that first Junk Journal Cover, I had NO flippin’ clue what I was doing. However, with a lot of research and a lot of guess work, I did it and I loved it. This time, I not only had an idea of what I was doing, I had a Vision!! A junk Journal with the Blues!
This time, I started with the Large Rectangle Journal Cover and my materials. I have a photo below, just be aware that as it progressed, I ended up removing a few things and adding others.

Of course, one thing that did not change, was the Clear Scraps Journal Cover base. I used a selection of heavy cardstock to cover the panels, both front and back. The INSIDE of the journal will be seen, so I used those pretty blues that you see in the photo above. I made them nice and neat and matchy~matchy as you can see here:

The outside of the journal cover was a different story. I knew that I would be completely covering it with ribbons and materials, so I didn’t care what color cardstock I used. However, I did make sure that it was a super thick~ high quality cardstock, because those seem to work better in my opinion. Here is what the outside cover looked like once the first layer was complete. Remember, this is all getting covered up, so the important thing here was to choose the best quality base for my Journal Cover.

Once all the glue was dried, it was time to do the FUN PART!!!! I had all this fun ribbon and lace that I had collected and had been dying to use. Why not use it for my journal cover!?

Well, I realized that the ribbon and lace alone would not achieve the look I had envisioned, nor would it completely cover all the yellow and black in the cardstock that I chose. SOOOO…I grabbad an old pair of jeans and started cutting! The denim would be perfect to compliment my ribbons, and I could fray the edges to give the final cover a vintage vibe!

I chose to use the upper part of the pant leg, so that the outer seam could line up with the top of my journal. Look at the photo and you’ll see what I mean. I wanted to leave that thick seam exposed.

Once I had the denim on, I thought…LACE! I want lace around the edges! So I did that, too. Do you see how my mind works, yet? This is why it take me forever to finish anything! I get all kinds of sideways when I am working on a project…anyone else have that problem? LOL
I tucked the lace under the edges of the denim and used hot glue to secure it in place. I also used a razor knife to gently fray of the edges of the denim to make it look worn and tattered, without actually tearing it up. I just gently used it like I would a seam ripper, and frayed the edges. Once all that was done, NOW it is time to add those pretty fabric ribbons!

One by one, I added the ribbons. I did end up deciding not to add the lace to the front cover at all. I loved the way that the blues looked together. I overlapped them jut a bit, being sure to secure all the edges. I even created a bit of a “lip” as I was doing this, so I went with it! I loved the raised edges and loved the final result!

I loved the look of the blues so much, that I grabbed my boot shaker tag from earlier in the month just to see what it would look like if I added it to the front. I placed that Cowboy Boot Shaker on top and WHAT!!! Holy Moly!!! I was in LOOOOOVE! Hows that for a journal with the Blues!! Y’all, I cant even stress how much I enjoyed doing this!
If you haven’t made a Junk Journal yet, I highly recommend doing one! I will leave links below to all of the Clear Scraps Products that I used in this album. Yes, I will make them clickable in case you would want to replicate it. Have a great Weekend, and Stay Crafty My Friends!
