It’s the most wonderful time of the year — and what better way to get into the spirit than with a cozy gingerbread-inspired project? 🍪 This month, I’m creating with the Clear Scraps DIY Wood House Tag Box, and it couldn’t be more perfect for a festive display piece! Whether you fill it with your favorite holiday photos or cherished family recipes, this little house will bring a touch of sweetness to your décor all season long.
I started by painting the front of the house a warm, gingerbread brown and the inside back a soft crème color. For the sides, I covered them with coordinating patterned papers to tie everything together. Once the paint was dry, I reached for one of my favorite winter techniques — dimensional paste! Using a putty knife, I spread it along the roofline and base of the house, sprinkled it with glitter while still wet, and then added a few polymer sprinkles and peppermints for that perfect frosted cookie house look.
Next came the details that make it feel truly homey — a little “door” cut from patterned paper, trimmed with enamel dots, and a sweet gingerbread girl to welcome guests! Each side of the box was finished with coordinating ephemera and embellishments to add layers of holiday cheer.
Once my house was complete, I turned my attention to the tags! I used the Acrylic Mixed Tags #10 set — one of my absolute favorites because of how versatile the acrylic is. Some tags were fully covered with patterned paper, while others were only partially embellished. I even ran one through my Big Shot with an embossing folder for added texture — my favorite technique when working with Clear Scraps acrylic pieces!
Because the tags are clear, I made sure to mirror the embellishments on both sides for a balanced look. It keeps the design symmetrical (which my right brain definitely appreciates!) and gives plenty of creative space to work with.
After finishing the embellishing, I tied coordinating ribbons to the top of each tag and tucked them neatly inside the tag box. Now I have a beautiful keepsake that can hold holiday photos, recipes, or even special memories — and it doubles as adorable kitchen décor all season long!
