Quick Cards – Part 1

One of my favourite things to do when making cards is use up scraps.  I have a drawer full of paper scraps, jars of leftover buttons and ribbon ends, and, because I've been working with Clear Scraps for a few years now….I have a pile of little pieces of acrylic.  Some of them are leftovers when I've used partial mini-albums, some are pieces I've started for layouts or cards and then changed my mind on, some of them are little pieces that have been die cut with a Sizzix …..but all of them are still great, and all of them are still perfect for little card embellishments!

The trees on these 2 cards have been die cut from the 12"x12" sheet of acrylic from Clear Scraps with a Sizzix. They're the perfect size to use as a card embellishment  and because I had a pair of them, I was able to make a couple of cards at the same time. I wanted to let the acrylic shine without covering it up with paper or something solid.  I used a Copic marker (the brown on the trunk) and Viva Decor's Glass Effect Gel (the green on the tree).   I put a pretty good layer of the green gel on this tree so that i could get the lumpy textured effect when it was dry instead of just a flat layer that looks like paint.

Here are 2 more cards made with embellishments that have been die cut.

This Happy Birthday card's sun (coloured with Copic)…

…and this little house (coloured with Copic and Marvy paint marker) on this Bon Voyage card.

Remember if you're buying acrylic that the Clear Scraps extruded acrylic (these 12×12 sheets for instance) is excellent for die cutting.  Not all machines will work, but basically the rule-of-thumb is that if the machine is strong enough and the blades of the dies are deeper than the depth of the acrylic, you're good to go!  This opens up worlds of possibility of what you can make with your acrylic.
