Hello fellow creatives!
It’s Jennifer here on the blog, and today I’m excited to share one of my latest 12×12 shadow box home décor pieces. I’ve been really into a nature theme lately, and this project is just the beginning—there are several more on the way!
Nature is so soothing, and I absolutely love the sense of peace and connection that comes from working with earthy colors, textures, and elements. Whether it's leaves, florals, wood textures, or natural tones, bringing a bit of the outdoors inside always feels grounding and beautiful.
Stay tuned as I walk you through this project and share some of the techniques and materials I used!
First, I started by choosing the perfect paper that really captured the essence of nature. The collection I used is full of earthy tones and charming details—think animals, insects, leaves, and other natural elements. I was especially drawn to the rich browns, soothing greens, and soft blues that run throughout the designs.
To complement the paper, I selected a gorgeous blue-green metallic paint and used it to coat all of the wooden pieces—front and back. The shimmer in the paint adds just the right touch of elegance while still keeping with the natural, earthy feel I love.
Next, I began working on the layout. I placed the center pieces on the base—without gluing anything down just yet—so I could play around with the arrangement. This step is all about finding the perfect balance of colors, images, and embellishments.
I took my time positioning the papers and decorative elements, making sure each part complemented the others. It’s so important to step back and see how everything flows together before committing with glue. This way, I could be sure the overall design felt harmonious and visually interesting. Finally, once I was happy with the layout and everything was in just the right place, I used B-7000 glue to adhere the frame and center pieces together. This glue has a strong hold, which is perfect for keeping everything secure inside the shadow box. After letting it dry completely, I grabbed my blue-green metallic paint again and carefully painted the edges of the frame. This extra step helped tie everything together, creating a seamless flow of color around the entire shadow box. It’s those little finishing details that really bring a piece to life!
Thank you for stopping by and have a beautiful summer.
