Sometimes the best creative ideas come from everyday conversations and this layout started exactly that way. A friend once shared photos of her “mug shots” on Facebook, highlighting her different coffee mugs each day. That simple idea stuck with me, and I knew I wanted to turn it into a scrapbook page with my own story behind it.
Over the past few years, I’ve become much more intentional about what I keep in my home. I’ve worked to remove clutter and surround myself only with items that hold meaning. As an avid coffee drinker, I’ve been gifted several mugs over time from loved ones, and each one has become a small treasure connected to a memory, a person, or a moment in my life that matters deeply to me.
For this 12×12 layout, I took photos of a few of my favorite mugs to document that story.

To build the background, I used the Clear Scraps Coffee Stain Stencil to add subtle texture and interest behind my design. It created the perfect soft, layered foundation without overpowering the page.
I then arranged my photos on the left side of the layout, layering them slightly and tucking the bottom edge just behind my custom “Mug Shots” title. This helped create dimension and visually anchored the focal point of the page.
Next came my journaling strips, which I placed alongside the photos. It tells the heart of the story and explains why these mugs matter and how they represent meaningful connections in my life.
To finish the page, I added details using the Coffee Embellishments Chipboard Punchouts. The coffee beans were colored with acrylic markers for depth and contrast, while the mug was covered in coordinating patterned paper. I also used acrylic markers to color the handle and heart detail, giving it a fun personalized touch.
I placed the small mug embellishment in the lower right corner of the title and tucked the coffee beans into the upper left corner of the photos to help guide the eye across the layout and balance the design.
This project is a great reminder that even everyday items, like your favorite coffee mugs, can tell a powerful story when documented in your scrapbook.
I’d love to encourage you to look around your home and find those “ordinary” objects that actually hold extraordinary meaning. Pull them into a layout and let your story shine.
