‘Texas Strong’ Acrylic Tag with Shaker

Hello Clear Scraps Friends and happy Friday! Misty @Mommyofkidz here today sharing the next installment of my acrylic shaker tag obsession. This one is a little different, however. This one tugs on my heartstrings a little more than I expected it would… not just because of the Texas shaped mini shaker! (I am a Texan Through and through!!!)

I’ve wrestled with myself over whether to share this or not… but I think I need to. You see, tomorrow, on the 4th of July, the people of the nation will have celebrations, host parties, and enjoy fireworks in remembrance off the day it gained it’s Independence 250 years ago.

However, there are so many people here in Texas who will not celebrate what happened 250 years ago. They will mourn what happened right here ONE year ago instead. There will be pain, sorrow, and multitudes of tears. Tomorrow- July 4th, is the one year anniversary of the catastrophic flash floods that happened here in Texas Hill Country that claimed at least 138 lives, many of them children. As I type this, my heart is already hurting for all the parents who lost their child in those floods. As a mother who has lost a son, I know this first anniversary is going to be the worst. I have lived it. No… I have survived it. PLEASE pray for all of the people who will be surviving the first anniversary of the loss of their loved ones tomorrow.

That leads me to my tag that I made…. TEXAS STRONG. That was the mantra that evolved amid the catastrophe. That is my prayer for all the people for tomorrow. STRENGTH. It is not Courage, or determination, or perseverance that will get them through tomorrow. It is Strength. And not of their own, I guarantee that.

Below is the photo of the materials that I gathered to create my tag. When I began making the tag, I was planning on using the Rose Chipboard Embellishment along with the Texas shaped mini shaker and #10 Acrylic Angle tag. As you can tell, however, it did not happen. It did not work once I had it all assembled, but I will use it in my project later this month…so keep an eye out for that!!

After adding the Texas to my tag with the super glue gel, I added the various shades of blue alcohol ink and splatters with perfect pearls and Nuvo drops. In my mind, this represents the flood waters that engulfed Texas on that day. Creating this tag was my way of honoring and remembering the ones who were lost, and praying for strength for those who are still here.

Crafting does not always have to be for fun. It can be healing and very therapeutic…again, I have lived it. It took me over 5 years to be able to scrapbook after I lost my son, but when I finally did, it helped in the healing process. If you or someone you know someone could use some healing, I encourage you to give crafting a try! Going through the process is difficult, but once you have the finished product, it rewards your heart with a smile.

Thank you for visiting today, and thank you for your prayers if you sent them. I encourage you to take a look at the CLEAR SCRAPS STORE and see all the amazing project starters that are waiting for your love and attention! Who knows, It may be the one that helps to heal your heart!
