Retro Birthday Shaker Card

Hello Clear Scraps Friends, and Happy Spooky Season!!! Can you believe that we are already in October?Holy Moly this year is speeding past us! Misty @Mommyofkidz here with you today, and I am going to share a new project, and I with everything going so fast around me, I decided to slow things down a bit. Heck maybe even take a trip beck in time. I decided to go RETRO! It is no secret that I love making the shakers…and I have no shame in saying that it is my addiction! LOL For this card, I used the Mini Shaker TV. I also tossed in the Multistars Chipboard pieces. Well, two of them. I used the others on a previous project and these were lonely…so I figured, why not!!??

I decided that I didn’t want to do a shaker tag this time. Since I used the patterned paper for the backing inside the TV, it would not be see-thru, and that just didn’t make me happy. LOL SO…a card it is! After painting the entire TV black and covering the backing, I filled it with tiny shaker balls and added the acrylic. I wanted the “screen” to be on top, not inset, so that is how I assembled it. Well, I didn’t realize it would leave air bubbles between the screen and the body of the shaker, which I was not a fan of. SOOOOO, I painted the acrylic solid black.

In the photo below, you can see where the vent slots and knob holes are… Well, I painted right over the top of those and completely forgot to mark where they were! SO…I improvised. I used large flat crystals for the knobs and liked how it turned out…crisis averted! LOL. We don’t have mistakes, we have happy accidents!

After I finished assembling the TV, I started thinking about the card. How could I make it even more Retro? Then it hit me. I save all the 4×6 outer edges of the chipboard pieces! I found a few of those that were a perfect match in size, glued them together and painted them red. for the backing, I used a light grey and stamped with black the retro rainbows. I had to hand draw the HBD, but it turned out pretty good! I mean…take a look at the photo below… and then the one below that…I think I did a pretty good job of capturing the 80’s Retro vibe!

So I “built” an Etch-A-Sketch and a retro TV. Now it was time to put the two together and build a card! And I did exactly that! The card presents the TV First, as just a regular Birthday card…I even added an antenna to the TV!

The TV opens up to reveal the hidden surprise.

And another Message! When reading the card, it says ” Happy Birthday! NOT OLD.” then you open it up and it says RETRO! HBD ………How cute is that?? Well, I did design it so I am clearly biased! LOL
