Halloween will be here before we know it, and September is the perfect time to start getting those spooky scrapbook pages ready! For my next project, I created a fun Halloween-themed page with plenty of room for photos, journaling, and playful embellishments. I used a few Clear Scraps chipboard pieces to add dimension and a little bit of spooky personality without taking away from the photos.
I started with a 12″ x 12″ cardstock base and added a patterned paper corner and coordinating word strip along the bottom portion of the page. For the main photo area, I created a 5¼” x 7¼” photo mat, which is sized to hold a 5″ x 7″ photo.
To add additional photo and journaling space, I created two white cardstock mats measuring 3¼” x 4¼”. For the upper mat, I trimmed a 3″ x 4″ cut-apart card to fit. I left the lower mat open so it could be used for an additional photo.
For my main embellishment, I reached for the Clear Scraps Witch Hat with Bats. I colored the hat and bats using a black acrylic marker and painted the hat’s rim with lime green paint. Once everything was dry, I added a few star-shaped confetti pieces to the hat for an extra bit of detail and sparkle.
I also pulled out the Clear Scraps Multi Stars Chipboard Embellishments and colored two of the stars to coordinate with the hat—one purple and one lime green. These little pops of color helped tie the embellishments together and gave me a few fun places to add dimension throughout the page.
I added a few sticker brackets around the photo areas and layered the Happy Halloween foam embellishment near the bottom center of the layout. To finish the upper portion of the page, I added one of the chipboard bats to the upper-left corner.
When I was ready to put everything together, I adhered the witch hat so that the top extends slightly over the edge of the large photo mat. I love letting embellishments overlap the edges of photo mats because it helps the page feel more layered and dimensional.
The lime green chipboard star was added to the center of the photo cluster, while the purple star went along the bottom-left corner of the lower photo mat. I tucked the second small chipboard bat beside the purple star, allowing it to extend just slightly over the edge of the photo mat.
A few additional sticker embellishments were all I needed to finish the page. I love how the black, purple, and lime green accents give this layout a playful Halloween feel while still leaving plenty of room for the photos to be the star of the page.
