Hi everyone! It’s Katie here today sharing a fun summer project that can carry you all the way from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July!

For this project, I used the Clear Scraps Large Shiplap Popsicle Wood Shape along with the 6″ Stars Stencil to create a patriotic door sign that is perfect for celebrating summer and showing a little red, white, and blue pride.

To get started, I painted the popsicle shape using red, white, and light blue acrylic paint. One of the things I love about the shiplap designs is that the engraved lines make perfect guides when dividing sections and adding color. I simply used the shiplap lines as my section dividers, making it easy to create clean, evenly spaced stripes.
Once the paint was completely dry, I pulled out the Stars Stencil and added stars to each section using contrasting paint colors. This simple step adds interest and texture while keeping the design cohesive. To add a little extra detail, I used a round sponge brush to dab coordinating dots throughout the design.

After the background was complete, it was time to add the title. I painted the “Sweet Land of Liberty” title and adhered it to the center of the popsicle. The title really pulls the entire project together and gives it that patriotic finishing touch.
Traditionally, many door hangers include a large bow, but for this project I decided to skip it. I loved the clean, simple look of the popsicle shape and didn’t want to distract from the painted design. Sometimes less really is more!
This project came together surprisingly quickly. In fact, the longest part of the entire process was simply waiting for the paint to dry. It’s a great project for creating seasonal decor without investing a lot of time, and it can be displayed throughout multiple holidays all summer long.
I love how bright and cheerful this turned out, and it will be hanging proudly on my door for the entire patriotic season!
