Retro Arcade Wall Art

Hello Clear Scraps Friends, and Happy Spooky Season!!! Can you believe this it is already half way through October? Misty @Mommyofkidz here with you today, and I am going to share a new project, but first, I have a question. Have you jumped on that 80’s AI photograph bandwagon yet? I haven’t, but I have been seeing them pop up everywhere! While I have not done the photo fad, I have discovered that the Retro Fad is becoming more and more popular…in everything! That brings me to my project. When you think of Halloween, you automatically think of ghosts, right? Well, in honor of “Spooky Season”, my project uses FOUR ghosts!

Yep, I used four ghost mini shakers and a circle mini shaker to create a fun retro art wall hanging. Of course it is shakers! Y’all know how much I love making ALL the shakers!! LOL
Anyway…what could I have created with those elements, you ask?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm four ghosts….a circle???? Hint: the circle has a small wedge blacked out… Any Guesses?

You guessed it! In lieu of making something spooky, I opted for the fun retro look featuring an oldie but a goodie…Pac-Man! OF COURSE I had to include his arch nemesis, the ghosts! Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde! This was SOOOO FLIPPIN’ FUN to make, y’all! Even my husband got involved and gave me some suggestions! LOL

Obviously, I started with the easiest part…the painting! Since this them originated in 1980, you can imagine how simple and basic the color palette is! I LOVED IT! Red, Yellow, Blue, orange, and pink! And of course, Black for the background “screen”. Can’t get more simple than that! However, you know me…I had to add a bit of “pizzazz!

Each shaker was filled with a different color filler to match their vibe. Pac-Man was filled with yellow gemstones and diamonds for a bit of sparkle…and of course a single googly eye on the outside of the acrylic cover. Each ghost had similar filler and googly eyes.

Of course I had to figure out how to display all these Ghoulish Ghosts! HA HA HA! We all know these guys aren’t ghoulish! GOOGLY Maybe! But not Ghoulish!

After eliminating all options of my normal “GO TO” projects, I finally decided to make a piece of Retro Arcade Game Wall Art! ** Nothing else made sense…not a scrapbook page, not an album, not a plethora of tags. In order to properly display these iconic characters, they needed to all be together…in a row…running from the Big Guy himself…

WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA …………………PAC-MAN!!!!!

For this guy, I cut a pie shaped wedge for his mouth and glued it to the underside of the acrylic cover before attaching the cover to the shaker.

I THOUGHT it would be sufficient…and while it was, it still showed air bubbles. So what did I do? I painted the top side, too! That certainly solved the air bubble problem! HA HA!

Are you familiar with the Pac-Man Arcade Game? Wait…who am I kidding!? EVERYONE knows Pac-Man! LOL I remember in the early 80’s, after the game was released in the States, it quickly became the most popular game in the front of ALL Walmart stores, grocery stores, and literally everywhere that had a place to put it! When we would take our family trip into town to go Shopping, my Dad could always be found in the front foyer area playing Pac-Man. I think the machine ate more of his quarters than Pac Man did the ghosts!! However, my Dad did hold that TOP spot in the Porter Texas Walmart for a very long time! LOL…

I think that Core Memory is what inspired me to make this fun Retro Arcade Wall Art. What Core Memories do you have that you can pay tribute to through your arts and crafts? Is it baking in the kitchen with Mom or Grandma? Or possibly gathering on Christmas Morning to open Gifts? The Clear Scraps Store has so many options, I am certain you will find something to spark one of your most beloved core memories!
