Christmas gift packaging doesn’t have to be ordinary! Turn simple gift bags and packages into festive holiday creations by adding handmade Christmas shaker embellishments. For this Clear Scraps project, I created three dimensional holiday shakers featuring a snowman, Christmas stocking, and angel, then added them to gift packaging for a fun and personalized finishing touch.
These festive embellishments are a great way to take basic packaging from simple to special—and the recipient gets a handmade keepsake they can enjoy long after the gift is opened!
Festive Christmas Shakers for Gift Packaging
I wanted to create a collection of Christmas-themed embellishments that could be used to decorate different types of gift packaging. I chose three classic holiday designs and gave each one its own look with glitter, sequins, ribbon, and other festive embellishments.
I’ve used Mini Shaker Angel, Mini Shaker Snowman and Mini Shaker Stocking.
These shakers are super easy to put together. They all come with 5 pieces – 1-chip back, 3 chip forms, 1 acrylic divider (must remove protective film). Add color to the chip back pieces with card stock or by painting or inking. Layer 2 of the chip forms to the back. Add your shaker bits. Apply color to the front chip piece as desired. Apply to the acrylic layer and then adhere to the other piece. Add any embellishments desired.
The first shaker features the Mini Snowman Shaker decorated with wintry blues and sparkly accents. I attached him to a handmade white gift bag finished with coordinating snowflake-patterned paper.
For the second package, I created the Mini Stocking Shaker filled with colorful holiday sparkle. The stocking was attached to a kraft gift bag filled with bright red tissue paper. A little bit of baker’s twine and jingle bell holiday embellishments helped tie everything together.
The final design is the Mini Shaker Angel that became the centerpiece of a small Christmas gift box. Gold ribbon, glitter, and festive details give this package an elegant holiday feel.
Why I Love Adding Shakers to Gift Packaging
One of my favorite things about shaker embellishments is the movement and sparkle they add to a project. A simple shake brings the glitter and sequins to life, making the packaging feel interactive and extra special.
They are also a great way to coordinate your gift wrapping with your handmade Christmas cards, tags, and other holiday projects. You can customize the colors and embellishments to match any Christmas theme.
Create Your Own Christmas Gift Embellishments
When creating your own holiday shakers, don’t be afraid to mix different types of embellishments. Glitter, sequins, beads, rhinestones, tiny die cuts, and other small pieces can all add wonderful dimension and movement.
Once your shakers are finished, attach them to:

The best part is that the shaker doesn’t have to be thrown away with the wrapping paper. The recipient can remove it from the package and use it as a Christmas ornament or holiday decoration!
