Canvas panel photo idea

Hello everyone – I am back with my second project for May.

We all have photos that we love and if you are like me you would want to display one special photo for visitors to see.  What better way than to create a canvas photo panel.

For today's project you will need the 4" x 6" butterfly flock stencil, fancy butterflies chipboard embellishment, a 12 x 12 canvas panel, ink pad (I used 2 colors), sponge daubers, cardstock to match the ink pads, flowers, butterfly punch, Gesso, paint brushes, black paint, vellum, alcohol ink to match your ink pads, blower tool, and alcohol.

Let's get the canvas panel set up for the other elements.  Take your canvas panel and place your stencil in the lower left hand corner.  Use your ink pads and sponge daubers to apply the ink through the stencil to the canvas.

While the canvas is drying, let's prep the chipboard piece.  For this you will need the chipboard piece, foam brush, and Gesso.  Paint the chipboard piece and let dry.

Once the Gesso is dry, paint the chipboard piece with black acrylic paint.

The butterflies need some colorful wings so let’s do some alcohol ink blending.  For this you will need a piece of vellum, 2 colors of alcohol ink (I chose 3 close to my colors I have already used), some alcohol in a bottle, and a blower tool.  Add your ink to the vellum and use the blower tool to move it around.  Continues with the colors until you have almost all of the vellum covered with ink and you are happy with the way it looks.  Set it aside to dry.

Let’s do some surgery on the chipboard piece.  Take some scissors and cut the butterflies away from the frame.  Trim it close to the frame so the frame gets a clean edge.  Trim the connecting bits from the butterflies making sure to get a clean edge also.

To cover the part where you cut the butterflies off, take a black Sharpie and color them.  Do the same with the butterflies.

To add the colorful wings to the butterflies apply glue to the back of the butterfly frame and stick it down on the vellum.  Make sure you have all the openings of the wings on the colored vellum.  Add a block to ensure the entire butterfly is stuck to the vellum.  Allow to dry.

Once the wings are dry, remove the excess vellum by trimming  around the butterflies.  Look at how pretty the butterflies are!

Take the frame and a piece of coordinating pattern paper and glue the frame to the pattern paper.  Place a block on top the ensure the paper and frame are attached all the way around. Allow to dry.

Use a strong glue to glue the frame to the center of the canvas.  Add the butterflies where you want.

Add some of your flowers around the frame.  Use your butterfly punches to punch out some butterflies using coordinating card stock.  Glue the butterflies on the canvas.

Add a picture to the frame and your canvas is ready to be displayed for everyone to admire!

I hope you enjoyed seeing this beautiful way to display a treasured picture.  I will be getting a good pic of my 2 butterfly girls and putting it in there. Hop over to the Clear Scraps website and pick up the supplies you need.

Have a Marvelous Monday!

Robbie
