For this project, I pulled out one of my Clear Scraps stencils, 4×6 Sunrise, and challenged myself to dig into my stash of mediums — inks, paints, markers, pastes…you name it! I have so many fun supplies, and this year I’m making a conscious effort to actually use them. And honestly, what better way than with stencils?

This card was inspired by a design I saw on Pinterest, and I knew right away I wanted to recreate it with my own twist.
To get started, I gathered all of my inks and blending brushes and laid them out in the order I planned to use them. This made the process so much smoother and helped me keep that rainbow flow consistent.

Next, I used Post-It Tape to mask off each section as I worked. This step is key! It keeps the colors crisp and prevents them from blending into each other where you don’t want them to.
Once all of my ink blending was complete, I trimmed the panel down to size. To add a little extra detail, I stamped tiny stars in coordinating ink colors into the white spaces between the bursts. Then, I used a black pen to hand draw some detail in the open circle area — just enough to give it a little extra interest without overpowering the design.
To finish the card, I mounted the panel onto a black card base and added a bold die cut “hi” sentiment. I absolutely love the contrast of the black against those bright rainbow colors — it really makes everything pop!
This design is not only fun, but also super versatile. It would be perfect for batch card making, and you could easily swap out the sentiment to fit any occasion.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope this project inspires you to pull out your stencils and all those fun mediums in your stash and start experimenting. Be sure to check out the variety of stencils from Clear Scraps — they’re perfect for creating bold, custom backgrounds like this one. And if you give this technique a try, I’d love to see what you create! 🌈✨
