Follow the yellow brick road junk journal

Hello crafty friends! Jennifer here on the blog today, and I’m excited to share my latest project—an 8×8 junk journal inspired by the new Graphic 45 Wizard of Oz paper line.

To start, I measured and cut my paper for both the front and back covers. I chose a beautiful green paper and trimmed it so it would wrap halfway over the spine while fully covering both chipboard pieces. I used two pieces, adhered them down to create the book. If you’ve seen my previous junk journaling posts, you know it’s important to leave about an inch around the edges—this allows you to fold the paper inward for a clean, finished look over your chipboard.

Next, I created the spine by punching three holes down the center, along with three matching holes on each side, all aligned. For the signatures, I selected four different papers and cut them to size. Once folded, each signature creates eight pages. (A signature is simply a group of pages that make up the inside of your journal.) I sewed them in by starting in the middle, working outward to the top, then down to the bottom, looping back through the outside spine, and tying it off securely.

For decoration, I used yellow paper from the collection along with a brick wall stencil to create a “yellow brick road.” I applied gel medium mixed with glitter for texture and sparkle, then added sequins and extra glitter on top to really bring it to life.

To finish the cover, I added ribbon, flowers, and coordinating die cuts layered over the brick road. I also mixed green, yellow, white, and pink glitter with small paper leaves (you can find these in the model train section at most hobby stores!) and applied them around the edges for extra dimension.

As for the inside—there are endless possibilities! I hope this project inspires you to create your own themed junk journal.

Happy crafting! ✂️✨
