Clear Scraps Project Post

There’s something timeless about Victorian-inspired artwork—the elegant ladies, delicate florals, ornate details, and romantic vintage imagery. Judy here and for this Clear Scraps project, I transformed a printer tray into a decorative piece that celebrates all of those beautiful elements while creating a cohesive collage of vintage-inspired scenes.

I am using the Rectangle/Square Printer Tray Frame.

Creating the Tray

I began by selecting a collection of Victorian-style images featuring elegant ladies, florals, fashion, and romantic details. I sized the images to fit the individual openings of the printer tray, creating a variety of focal points throughout the design.

The printed images were adhered to the backside of one of the the chipboard cutouts, carefully arranging them so that the larger portraits and dress form image balanced the smaller floral and text elements.

Once the images were in place, I adhered a second cutout piece on top. this second piece helps add a little depth, if wanting to add dimensional pieces. The double layered cutout piece was then adhered to the chipboard back.

I especially love the combination of the fashionable Victorian ladies with the vintage dress form and floral imagery. The printed book text in the upper center compartment adds another wonderful layer of historical character.

Finishing Tray Construction

Next, I painted the third cutout piece with a soft pink acrylic paint.

Remove the protective film from both sides the acrylic divider.

Adhere the acrylic piece to the tray. The painted cutout is added on top.

Adding the Details

For an extra touch of elegance, I added ornate gold corner embellishments to the four outside corners of the tray. The gold beautifully complements the antique feel of the Victorian artwork and provides a decorative frame around the entire piece.

Clusters of pink and cream paper flowers with greenery were placed at several of the intersections between compartments. Repeating the floral clusters helps lead the eye around the entire project while adding dimension and softness to the vintage imagery.

I also added subtle gold accents around the individual sections, with a metallic paint pen, to help define the compartments and give the finished piece a more polished, vintage appearance.

A Little Vintage Romance

One of my favorite things about altered projects is taking a functional or unfinished piece and giving it an entirely new personality. The Clear Scraps Printer Tray was perfect for this project because all of those individual compartments provide so many opportunities for creating little vintage scenes.

Rather than filling every space with embellishments, I allowed the beautiful printed artwork to remain the star of the project. The flowers and ornate corners simply enhance the imagery without overwhelming it.

The finished printer tray has a romantic Victorian parlor feel, almost like a collection of treasured photographs, fashion plates, and keepsakes gathered together in one display.

This project is a wonderful reminder that Clear Scraps pieces can be transformed into so much more than their original purpose suggests. With a few beautiful images, coordinating embellishments, and a little creativity, a simple printer tray becomes a dimensional piece of vintage-inspired home décor.
